Tips & Tricks
- Adjust Text Size During Lessons: During typing lessons, pressing the Up or Down arrows will adjust the text size dynamically, allowing for quick changes to suit your reading comfort.
- Build Accuracy First: Building accuracy is often easier and more important than building speed, as speed will come with time. As such, lowering the WPM Goal may help improve overall typing skills and reduce frustration.
- Cumulative Learning: Each key is introduced with a tutorial and lesson focusing on that key. That new key will be present in almost all future lessons, allowing for continuous reinforcement and practice.
- Quick Progress: Lowering the accuracy goal can help students progress quickly and build familiarity under time constraints, allowing them to refine accuracy later at their own pace.
- Visual Tracking: Some teachers may find the onscreen keyboard and hands feature helpful, as it can sometimes be easier to visually track the typing process than to watch the student’s hands.
- Reduce Distractions: By design, Typio is built to minimize student distractions while maintaining student engagement. The Single Word Mode setting can help with this by focusing attention on one word at a time.
- Repeat the Prompt: During lessons, pressing the Control Key will repeat the current typing prompt aloud, at a slightly slower rate. Typio will spell out the current word and speak the rest of the typing prompt in full words.
- Screen Reader Equality: Students relying on Typio's audible prompts may benefit form enabling the Smart WPM feature. This will ensure that the WPM timer is paused while prompts are being spoken, providing a more equitable experience compared to sighted peers.
- Mobile Friendly: Typio is designed to work well on both desktop and mobile devices. On mobile or tablet devices, try both landscape and portrait mode to see which works best for you.
- Real World Rewards: Teachers can change the number of Typing Pet coins a student has. This can be useful for providing digital rewards for real world activities.
