Scanning Help
Purpose
Scanning allows you to scan physical documents and images using a connected scanner or camera. Convert paper documents to text or save them as images for later viewing.
How to Access
- From the Main Menu, use the Up/Down arrows to find Scanning.
- Press Enter to open Scanning.
Navigation & Controls
- Up/Down Arrows: Move through menu items.
- Enter: Select an option or activate a button.
- Escape: Go back to the previous screen.
- Spacebar: Read All - have the scanned text read aloud.
Using Scanning
Scanning Menu
When you open Scanning, you'll see:
- Scan to Text: Scan a document and convert it to readable text.
- Scan to Image: Scan a document or photo and save it as an image.
- Open Scanned Document: View previously saved scans.
- Go Back: Return to the Main Menu.
Scan a Document to Text
- Place your document in the scanner or position it in front of the camera.
- From the Scanning menu, select Scan to Text and press Enter.
- If multiple scanners are detected, use the Up/Down arrows to select your scanner and press Enter.
- Wait while the scanning is in progress. A loading indicator will appear.
- Once complete, the recognized text will appear on screen.
- Use the on-screen controls or press Spacebar to have the text read aloud.
- Select Save and press Enter to save the document.
Scan Multiple Pages to One Document
- Place your first page in the scanner.
- From the Scanning menu, select Scan to Text and press Enter.
- Select your scanner if prompted and wait for the scan to complete.
- After the first page is scanned, select Scan More Pages and press Enter.
- Place your next page in the scanner.
- Wait for the additional page to be scanned.
- Repeat steps 4-6 for each additional page you want to add.
- When all pages are scanned, select Save and press Enter to save the complete document.
Scan to Image
- Place your document or photo in the scanner or in front of the camera.
- From the Scanning menu, select Scan to Image and press Enter.
- A live preview will appear showing what will be captured.
- When ready, select Save and press Enter to save the image.
- Select Go Back to cancel without saving.
Open a Scanned Document
- From the Scanning menu, select Open Scanned Document and press Enter.
- Use the Up/Down arrows to browse your saved scans.
- Press Enter to open and view the selected document.
- Use the on-screen controls or press Spacebar to have the text read aloud.
- Press Escape or select Go Back to return to the file list.
Delete a Scanned Document
- From the Scanning menu, select Open Scanned Document and press Enter.
- Use the Up/Down arrows to navigate to the document you want to delete.
- Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Scan Result Navigation Controls
When viewing a scanned document with multiple pages, use these controls:
- << (First Page): Jump to the first page.
- < (Previous Page): Go to the previous page.
- ▶ (Play / Read): Read the current page aloud.
- > (Next Page): Go to the next page.
- >> (Last Page): Jump to the last page.
Tips & Tricks
- Read All: Press Spacebar to have your scanned text read aloud automatically.
- Multi-Page Documents: Use Scan More Pages to add additional pages before saving, creating one complete document.
- Exit Without Saving: If you need to cancel a scan, select Exit Without Saving. You'll be asked to confirm or return to the document.

- You'll be shown a list of available scanners. Use the Up/Down arrows to select the one you want to use and press Enter.
- Can I scan multiple pages into one document?
- Yes, after scanning the first page, select Scan More Pages to add additional pages before saving.
- What file formats are saved scans stored as?
- Scanned text documents are saved as text files. You can access them from Open Scanned Document.
- How do I cancel a scan in progress?
- Select Go Back during the scanning process to cancel.
